No fewer than five bandits were confirmed killed on Wednesday evening during an encounter between their gang and the police in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident on Thursday.

Sources revealed that the bandits numbering over one hundred and fifty had stormed Wurma and Yarbudu villages in the council.
They were, however, confronted and repelled by a team of Police Mobile Force stationed at Wurma Village.
Police sources said one bandit died in the fierce encounter which ensued.
It was further learnt that another police team led by the Area Commander, Dutsin-ma blocked the exit route of the fleeing bandits at Yarbudu Village resulting in another fierce encounter between the police team and the bandits.
Four bandits died in the encounter while others were said to have fled into the forest with various gunshot wounds.

He said the police also recovered six of the motorcycles used by the bandits during the invasion.
SP Isah explained, “On 02/06/2021 at about 17:30hrs, bandits numbering over one hundred and fifty (150), on motorbikes, armed with AK 47 rifles, attacked Wurma and Yarbudu villages, Kurfi LGA. A team of Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel stationed at Wurma Village engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle and repelled their attack. One was neutralized and many escaped with gunshots wounds. One operational motorcycle of the bandits was also recovered.
“A team of policemen led by Area Commander, Dutsinma, blocked the escape route of the bandits at Yarbudu Village and engaged them in a gun duel.
“The doggedness, uncommon courage and tactical operational strategy adopted by the Police officers made the bandits flee into the forest with varying degree of bullets wounds. In the course of profiling the scene, four (4) bandits were neutralised and five (5) of their motorcycles were recovered.”
The police spokesman implored members of the public, especially those residing at the frontline councils not to be tired of giving credible information on the bandits and their collaborators to assist in the current efforts at tackling crimes in the state.
“The Command assures members of the public that it remains resolute and committed in the ongoing fight against recalcitrant bandits until they are arrested and dealt with according to the extant laws of the land,” SP Isah declared.
