The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a directive to all workers to support the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, and all Labour Party candidates in the upcoming general election. The NLC’s National Political Commission National Secretary, Comrade Chris Uyot, announced this decision on February 21st, 2023.
To ensure the success of the Labour Party in the election, the NLC has instructed its political committee members in the states to intensify their efforts in mobilizing workers and Nigerians at the local, ward, and polling units to vote for the party. The political committees are also expected to collaborate with civil society organizations and students to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and ensure transparency and fairness.
The NLC has called on all affiliate unions and State Councils of Congress to provide maximum support and cooperation to the political committees. They have been tasked with strengthening their work at the state, local government, ward, and polling unit levels by providing at least 10 ward coordinators and canvassers to mobilize and defend the people’s votes.
