The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have launched Operation Eagle Eye to combat road carnage during Christmas and new year festivities in Borno State.

A statement by the spokesman of NEMA, North East zonal office, AbdulKadir Ibrahim said the launch was occasioned by worries over increasing rate of road mishaps.

He disclosed that the exercise is organized in partnership with relevant stakeholders in disaster management.

He said during the exercise motorists and other road users were enlightened on proactive measure to avert road mishaps.

Ibrahim said the Acting Zonal Coordinator, NEMA Northeast Zone, Mr. Chinoko Ishaya noted that the exercise was conducted annually during the Yuletide as a result of increase in traveling for Christmas celebrations.

He further cautioned motorists against violation of traffic rules and regulations while driving, adding that the act may jeopardize free flow of traffic while avoiding over speeding.

He said. “Road Safety is everybody’s business, I urge motorist to abide by traffic rule and speed limit to stay alive.”

He revealed that FRSC personnels and Emergency Response Teams have been deployed across the major highways in Maiduguri to ensure prompt response before, during and after Christmas and during the new year celebration.
