A grandfather, Bawada Audu, has been arrested by the police for allegedly burying his grandson alive.
The incident happened at Rimin Zayam, in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, said the suspect allegedly seized the newborn baby from his 17-year-old-daughter, Hafsat Bawada, and buried him alive.
The case was reported to the police by a human rights organisation, following which the baby was exhumed and rushed to a General Hospital, where the child was certified dead.
It was gathered that Hafsat, the mother of the baby, also accused one Danjuma Malam Uba, who is now at large, of having carnal knowledge of her.
The baby was released to the villagers for burial while the grandfather is in detention.
