Unknown gunmen attacked the popular radio station, Wish FM 99.5, and the Atlantic Television Network in Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria, on Tuesday night. The attack was carried out with explosive devices that were suspected to be dynamite, as well as sporadic gunshots.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 8:40 pm, and it led to the destruction of some equipment and property in the facility that houses the two media outlets. The facility is owned by a member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe, and is a popular source of news and entertainment for residents of the state.
Although no casualties were reported in the attack, the damage to the media outlets’ equipment and property is expected to affect their operations in the coming days.
The motive for the attack is not yet known, and no group has claimed responsibility. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the state commissioner of police, Friday Eboka, has visited the scene to assess the damage and speak to eyewitnesses.
