‎Residents of Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, defied governor Nyesom Wike by taking to the streets to protest against police brutality. ‎

Wike had on Monday banned protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian police force in the state.‎

Wike, in the directive issued to residents of Rivers State, said there was no need for protests as the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already disbanded SARS.‎

The governor also directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that the ban on protests is enforced and that violators are arrested.

But, in defiance of the governor’s order, protesters on Tuesday converged on Port Harcourt, bearing different placards while chanting “EndSARS”.‎

Several popular Nigerians have also criticised the governor for banning protests in the state. ‎
