The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday (22/02/2023) has secured a temporary forfeiture order for 14 properties in Lagos, Abuja, and the United Arab Emirates that are linked to the Kogi State Government.

The order was granted by the Federal High Court in Lagos following an ex parte motion filed by EFCC counsel, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, in case number FHC/L/CS/301/2023, which was argued before Justice Nicholas Oweibo. Oyedepo informed the court that the properties, including one in the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, were suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

Furthermore, Justice Oweibo authorized the EFCC to confiscate N400 million recovered from Aminu Falala and linked to the Kogi State Government. Oyedepo alleged that the funds were intended for the purchase of Plot No. 1224 Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, and were suspected to have been derived from illegal activities.

The court ordered the EFCC to publish the forfeiture order within 14 days to allow interested parties to raise objections to the permanent forfeiture of the properties.
