About 19 robbery, kidnap suspects escape from custody in Calabar 

‎About 19 armed robbery and kidnap suspects have reportedly escaped from the custody of the Cross River Police Command in Calabar.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday night. ‎

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident on Monday.

But the police spokeswoman said only three suspects escaped.

According to her, two of the suspects were gunned down while trying to escape, and one other was rearrested.

Ugbo further disclosed that the girlfriend of one of the suspects procured a saw which was used to cut the lock before they escaped.‎

It was further gathered that some officers have been detained over the incident.
